Stanford SPEACK

"Students Promoting Ethnic And Cultural Kinship"

Mission Statement

To facilitate mutual support among all ethnic, racial, and national groups at Stanford by hosting programs, encouraging dialogue, and providing a forum through which different groups can confront issues, share concerns, and address contemporary and historic events pertaining to identity. We will organize activities, programs, and discussions with the purpose of increasing understanding between and among groups, educating people about issues that affect certain ethnic or national communities, and providing a forum in which all people feel comfortable and connected.

Goals

1. To encourage the participation of all ethnic, racial, and nationality groups in each other's events and discussions, thus fostering a greater understanding of cultural experiences at Stanford.

2. To promote the participation of all students—including White American students and those who do not yet feel comfortable conversing about these topics—in the conversation about ethnic and national identity.

3. To serve as an accessible and immediate response team to contemporary ethnic issues that students want to address publicly and discuss with each other.

4. To provide a public forum for discussing identity issues in which all participants feel comfortable, welcome, and understood, and multiple points of view can be shared and discussed.
